Set it up as a system of equations

l= 2+ 2w

2l + 2w = 34

2w = 34- 2l

l = 2 + 34-2l

3l = 36

l= 12

w = 10

When your faced with this kind of problem always start out by listing everything you know and then try to manipulate one of the functions to see if you can get it in a form you can plug into another function

L=2+2w

P=2L+2w=34

2(2+2w)+(2w)=34

4+4w+2w=34

4+6w=34

6w=30

w=5 inches

L=2+2(5)=12 inches
