Factor each one.

x^2 +6x +8 = (x+2)(x+4)

x^2 +5x +4 = (x+1)(x+4)

(x^2 +6x +8) / (x^2 +5x +4)

= (x+2)(x+4) / [(x+1)(x+4)]

You can cancel the (x+4)’s leaving you with

= (x+2)/(x+1)

Ok what you do is first you simplify the top

x squared + 6x +8……….it comes out to be (x+4)(x+2)

then the bottom

X squared + 5x+ 4……….it comes out to be (x+4)(x+1)

now you have (x+4)(x+2) over (x+4)(x+1) now simplify that by canceling out the (x+4) from the top and bottom

now you are left with (x+2) over (x+1) and i believe that is as simplified as it can get without knowing x.

I hope this helps
