Simple formula for axis of symmetry?

I am totally lost in finding the axis of symmetry for the x value. Please help! Here is one example problem: f(x)=4x^2+x-3

basically, let f(x) = y rite?

y= ax^2 + bx +c

the axis of symmetry is -b/2a, and that gives you the x value, hence the axis of symmetry. So far, until you get to year 10, thats all you need to know.

In your case, its 1/4 (b=1, a =4)

Like the last guy said, the line is x=-b/2a. (where a=4 and b=1 in your case,)

hence x=-1/8
