YES, mitochondria is the power house, but no the plant will not die due to lack of energy.

Plant cells are different from animal cells. Like animal cells, plant cells have mitochondria, but they also have another kind of energy-converting organelle called a chloroplast. Chloroplasts are not found in animal cells.Therefore, since the chloroplasts are present still, the plant will still be able to convert energy that it receives from the sun. However, it will be a slower process, and may take longer.

As my AP Bio teacher called it “the mighty mito” it produces the cell’s energy. Without the mitochondria, the cell would most likely die because there was no energy to keep running. Just like a person not eating –> no energy –> dying.
