I am doing a school project for debate class… i need some reasons why zoos are bad. i know that they are good but we have to be able to see the situation from the other peoples point of view. please help me and say why zoos are bad.

They keep the animal in alien surroundings away from their normal habitat.
They confine animals without giving them enough stimuli for their wellbeing.

Zoos can be bad because animals have their freedom taken away (analogous with a human in prison) and in order to supply zoos with the animals they must initially be removed from their natural habitat and thus decreasing the natural population size. This can cause a “butterfly effect” on a sensitively balanced eco system. Also, zoos can be bad because of all the injuries caused by the interaction between the humans and the animals.

Zoo’s can also be a breeding ground for animal illnesses. With so many animals in a small area disease can spread quickly. Predators also can be more aggressive than normally because they can use their hunting and trapping instincts. Being fed by zookeepers and not hunting can make some predators unruly.
