Questions about mitochondria, ER, and Golgi?

What type of cells would have the most mitochondria? Muscle, fat, cartilage, or sperm? Why?

What’s the difference between cis and trans of the endoplasmic reticulum and the golgi apparatus?

Of the four, muscle cells have the most mitochondria because they require more energy (which is produced by the mitochondria) than the others. Interestingly, even though the sperm does require a lot of energy to travel, all of the mitochondria are kep in it’s flagella (tail), and upon implantation the tail drops off. Therefore, all mitochondria is derived from the mother.

The cis and trans terms typically apply to the golgi apparatus, which is in a network with the ER. The ER is responsible for protein translation, folding, and transport in cisternae. The cis side of the golgi is closest to the ER and is the binding site for proteins being transported from the ER to the Golgi. The trans side is farthest from the ER and ships the protein out the it’s final destination.
