An equation or expression that can be written in quadratic form after a substitution.

Quadratic form is ax^2 + bx + c

x^4 + x^2 – 6 is in quadratic form.

Let y = x^2, then y^2 = x^4

Substituting you get

y^2 + y – 6 which is now a quadratic equation in y.

To be written in quadratic form, the exponent of one variable term needs to be twice the exponent of the other variable term.

Here are a few more examples:

x + x^(1/2) + 5

7x^(2/3) + 6x^(1/3) + 1

x^(1/3) + 2x^(1/6)

Notice that 2(1/2) = 1, 2(1/3) = 2/3, and 2(1/6) = 1/3
