Punctuation help?

Is my punctuation ok?

Elizabeth Gilbert’s memoir of worldly travels, Eat Pray Love, gives a detailed and interesting account of her adventures throughout Italy, India and Indonesia.

Her tales of Italy are greatly influenced by the Italian cultural influences. For example, Gilbert enjoys: eating lavish pasta meals, drinking wine, and visiting the ancient Roman ruins.

Gilbert often talks in great detail about her Italian experiences; if she were to ignore the cultural influences then her stories would turn bland, creating an ineffective reflection on the Italian lifestyle.

However, Eat Pray Love’s audience includes a vast amount of people; basically, anyone who wishes to read a fascinating tale.

I have some punctuation recommendations and also some non-punctuation recommendations for you. Hope they help.

First paragraph: Insert a comma after India

Second paragraph: You’ve used two versions of “influence” in one sentence. You should change one of them to another word. Also, I don’t think you need the colon before your list.

Third paragraph: I think you should replace your semi colon with a period and make “If she were to ignore…” the beginning of a new sentence.

Fourth paragraph: I don’t think you should start a paragraph with “However.” Replace “amount” with “number.” “Amount” is used for things you cannot count (such as sand), whereas “number” is used for things you can count (such as people). Take out “basically.” That word is almost always unnecessary.

Other than that, I think it is very well written.

I might rephrase the following sentences as follows:

Gilbert enjoys eating lavish pasta meals, drinking wine, and visiting the ancient Roman ruins.

Eat Pray Love’s audience includes a vast amount of people who like to read fascinating tales.

Ask Tracy, she has the answer..
Your punctuation is perfect. Bravo. 🙂

The only thing I might leave out is the colon that follows “Gilbert enjoys.” Otherwise, you did very well!

And believe me, I obsess about punctuation, grammar, and spelling!

WAIT, WAIT, WAIT. Sorry. Don’t forget to italicize “Eat Pray Love” in your paper.
