i’d like to know the reality behind ADHD. I believe some(a very few kids) actually have it. I believe most kids are just being kids who happen to live in a world that demands a dual-income family. A dual income family does not have 1 parent which stays home and raises a child in good manners and upbringing. Instead kids go to school and come home to an empty house for 1-3 hours or until the parents come home. These kids are just acting as kids do. Now the parents come home tired and want peace and quiet but do not realize that their own kids are just being quiet. the parents think this is abnormal behavior because they place work and money ahead of their own family (they say they work hard to give their family the best). So these same parents take their kids to doctors and ask the doctors “what’s wrong with my kid?” the doctor’s are in a profession of being pill pushers (many of them) and so prescribe and diagnose these normal kids with ADHD. The parent then takes the kid home who is mellowed out by ADHD drugs and now has a child who has ADHD. I don’t believe many of these children really have ADHD. Most are just normal kids, but in todays day and age of labeling every problem without looking at what the problem really is (in this case just bad parenting) the real problem is not being fixed, but rather blame is being asigned where it does not belong.

I have tried bringing this up in psyche classes only to have it tossed aside by a teacher(professor who works 50+hours per week), a doctor at a site visit(who also works 50+hours per week), a psychiatrist(who claims this is just a ridiculous claim), and parent interviews who tell me i just don’t know what it is like to have kids of my own. Each of the 50+hour workers i talked to also had children they said had ADHD and husbands or wives who were business owners or fellow doctors(which mean they also work 50+hours per week)..

It seems to be a very taboo subject which no one really cares to address. You can probably make a good book and have it published based on this premise alone. feel free to contact me for further questions: [email protected]. it’s also funny and suspect that ADHD really didn’t become a major issue in this country until about the mid 1980’s when more and more households moved into the dual income type of family. And i do believe there are real kids with real ADHD and i am not by any means knocking them. This is more a knock on the parents which are unable to properly discipline, educate, and raise their own children due to their own busy life schedules and selfishness.

1) your topic needs to be simple and focused.

2) pick something close to you. also, usually the professor

need to approve a topic before you “write on it”

3)also finding a topic that works with what your class is doing is going to be an important reason to help you pick your topic.

but if the above does not help you. write on the following subject(s)

1) How the right and left hemispheres of the brain communicate.

2)What part of the brain is responsible for certain things ?

come on girl… picking a topic is easy. 🙂 researching and narrowing your topic is hard part.

good luck.

I like the teenage cutting idea. Why do they do that? It’s an interesting subject and I’m sure you could find a lot of research if you expand and do the subject as 13- 14 year olds, that’s when they start acting weird.

I did a Psych paper over Sociopaths. It was very interesting and you can find lots of information. A sociopath (if you don’t know) is someone who has a lack of care of other people. Ex. An extreme case would be people who are serial killers. People who have no understanding or ability to understand things from other peoples point of view, and live in a very self absorbed world.

The prevalence of ADD/ADHD in adolescents has been quite an interesting topic for discussion lately.

You could talk about the onset of the disorder, or how many children are being (unnecessarily) medicated?

Why do teenage girls cut themselves? I’ve heard like 50% do it or something like that.
