A hot-air balloon, headed due east at an average speed of 6 miles per hour and at a constant altitude of 190 feet,

passes over an intersection . Find an expression for the distance D (measured in feet)

from the balloon to the intersection T seconds later.

6 mph = 31680 feet/3600 sec = 8.8 feet second

so in T seconds, horizontal distance = 8.8T

D is the hypothenuse of the triangle formed by the 8.8t and the 190 feet altitude = sqrt(190^2 + [8.8T]^2) = sqrt(36100 + 77.44T^2)
