Plz help me with this math!?

im placeing decimals!!! help needed

<0-----0.5-----1-----1.5-----2-----2.5-----3 that is the best line i could do for now... i have to place 1.25 and 1.4 somewhere between 1 and 2. im not ssure where exactly like if i should put 1.4 close to 1 or right behind 1.5 or where i should put 1.25 so plz help im confused!

Pretty good impromptu number line.

1.25 is halfway between 1 and 1.5, and so it should go exactly halfway between these numbers on the line.

From 1.0 to 1.5, we could divide that space into 5 parts. Can you see where 1.4 would go? 1.1, 1.2 , . . .

ok decimals go in order just like whole numbers

so you would have 0.1 – 0.2 – 0.3 – 0.4 – 0.5

Now here is a simple trick!

Look at the numbers behind the decimal. If there are two numbers behind the decimals in some numbers and only one number in others, make them all the same by adding a 0.

for example, you have 1.25 and 1.4

1.25 has 2 numbers behind the decimal, so change 1.4 to 1.40 so that it too has 2 numbers behind the decimal.

NOW put them in order.

obviously .25 comes before .40

so 1.25 comes before 1.40 which is in front of 1.5 (1.50)

so here is another example 1.21, 1.6 and 1.1

1.21

1.60

1.10

so 1.10 – 1.21 and then 1.60

you should put 1.25 closer to 1 and put 1.4 closer to 1.5 so there’ll be some gap between 1.25 and 1.4 which will look mostly like this: 1-1.25—1.4–1.5

okay, 1.25 is a little more tricky. we do not have to worry about all the little numbers after the decimal point for now. Let’s start with the first two number: 1.2

Is 1.2 bigger or smaller than 1? bigger or smaller than 1.5?

Now, 1.25 is a little bit bigger than 1.2, but not as big as 1.3

1.0–1.1–1.2-1.25-1.3–1.4–1.5–1.6–1.7–1.8–1.9–2

since you don’t have ll those numbers, let’s only use the ones you do have:

1.0——1.25——1.4–1.5——————-2

think of your number line as money and that will definitely cinch it for you. Example, 1.5 is really $1.50, so is $1.40 (1.4)greater than $1.50 or less?
