ok this is one of my old answers but it should explain it a little bit for you.

“it hard to explain lord of the flies in connection to plato because i didnt study plato. but using one of the other answers as my reference to plato about civilized man:

in lord of the flies some young boys are plane wrecked on an island with no adults, they form a small govt using a conch as a symbol of authority, whoever has the conch gets to talk, they are okay for a few days, then one of the boys branches off and some follow, war erupts between the two parties of boys, the ones that branched off and became savages and the others who remained civilized. they soon fight each other and one of them dies, piggy. the savages, who were once civilized humans, became wild and animal like in the sense of killing there own kind, the branched off boys develop this idea that killing is good to survive and some even go insane.”

its been a while since i read the book for class, but i think thats the main idea.

here use this site to brush up on the story and plot.

The boys are on an island, which is isolated and completely void of any influence of modern law and order.

If the boys were, lets says lost in the middle of the dessert there would still be a chance of encountering civilization(by walking). They boys lose hope of rescue, since they cannot get off the island and no one knows where they are. Therefore they try and start their own society, and make their own law and order.

To find out what the important point of humanity is, read the very end where it says why Ralph is crying. Once you have that, consider the setting and how it affected the boys.

Good luck!
