if you cut a circle in half, the length is the diameter. Half of the diameter is the radius. If you drew a line from one point on a circle through the center to the other side that distance is the diameter. Does that help? – s

A circle is the set of all points a distance, r, from the center. The diameter is twice r.

A diameter is an imaginary line that goes straight through a circle. It is the same length, no matter which way to draw it.

=)

(and by the way, the radius is half the diameter)

here is an example:

Diameter is the length of a circle from side to side. You’re basically finding the width.
