8x-1-x=7x+1

7x – 1= 7x +1

Subtract 7x on both sides

-1 = 1

Since the last statement is false, the initial equation does not have any solutions.

I do not see how it can be solved. In the end the x’s cancel each other out

Example 8x (-x) -1 = 7x+1 7x -1 = 7x + 1 Then when you subtract the x’s you get -1=+1 . Since -1 does not = + 1 there is no answer.

8x-2-x=7x+1

combine like terms

7x-1=7x+1

Subtract 7x from both sides (x’s cancel out)

-1=1

they are not equal and there is no solution for x.

John just proved himself wrong with his own math:

8x=8x+2… Umm.. no.. 8x does NOT equal 8x plus 2.

It’s as the first person said.. This question, as posted, is not solvable for x.

Answer is 2

add -x to both sides of the equation that cancles the -x adds x to 7x

8x-1=8x+1

now add 1 to both sides cancles -1 adds 1 to +1

8x=8x+2

divide 8x to both sides cancles both 8x left with 2
