Perimeter of a rectangle. The perimeter of a rectangular backyard is 6x+6 yards. If the width is x yards, find a binomial that represents the length.

first, since this is a rectangular perimeter, then you should know that out of the 6x+6 yards, 2x is alloted for the width because there are two widths in a rectangle. Therefore, anything that is not width is length. Thus, subtract 2x from 6x+6 and you will get 4x+6.
Now that you know that your total length is 4x+6, divide that by 2 to get one length. Thus, you will get 2x+3 yards as the length.
Checking, 2(2x+3) + 2(x) = 4x+6+2x = 6x +6 which verifies our answer.
