While certainly there were some jobs lost…there are always jobs lost in some industry or another when less expensive imports come in, not nearly the amount of jobs were lost as were highly publicized before the trade agreement was signed.
This is a global economy and trying to save jobs here by not allowing imports into the country is a brain dead reactionary exercize that ignores the inevitability of the global economy.
I suppose you’re going to have to extrapolate why this should be important to HR professionals…I don’t know why it should be any more important to them than to anybody else in business (or the world, for that matter)..esp. since NAFTA is a done deal for several years now and I don’t think has had all that big an impact on us in the US that I hear anybody talking or crying about (bad or good.) NAFTA is very old news as far as I am concerned.
