Physical Science Honors hw help please?

so there’s this scantron hw. and it’s like this

1. [a] [b] [c] [d] [e]

and there are like different answers.

one could be A or B or C or D or E

or like AB AC AD AE

and even ABC ABD ABE

and ABCD ABCE

and ABCDE

there’s another question i need help on and the scantron goes from [A] [B] [C]…to…[G] [H] [I]

i need help finding a formula or pattern for a shortcut to find how many possible answers there are.

The answer above mine is wrong. You use permutations when the arrangement of objects have to be in a certain order. In your case, AB and BA are the considered the same, therefore, using the permutations formula will not give you the correct answer. How many ways can all the letters be grouped is your question. For this, you need to use the combination formula. If you type in “combination formula” in Google, it will give you links on how to use it. Good luck!
