Ok. another algebra question…?

oops. on my last question i wrote the question down wrong.

here the correct question:

8 – l 1 – y l = 7

[then of course the other problem would be:]

8 – l 1 – y l = -7

so ya. i know u add -8 to both sides, then you get…wat,

– l 1 + -y l = -7 ???

(sry my teacher taught us to always add the opposites, ex-

5 – 7 = 5 + -7…….its a habit)

8 – l 1 – y l = 7

so you subtract 8 from both sides and get

– l 1 – y l = -1

then you divide both sides by -1 and get

l 1 – y l = 1

then you set up the 2 equations

1-y = 1…and…1-y = -1

so then the answers would be

y = 0 and y = 2

8-l 1-y l= 7

there should be 2 problems like this one w/ negative answer and the other w/ positve

8-1-y= -7 or 8-1-y=7

then you combine like terms in this case subtract 8 -1 u end up with this

7- y = -7 or 7-y = 7

subtract 7 from both sides to get y=

-y = -14 or -y = 0

then divide by -1 and these are you answers

y = 14 or y = 0
