The English settled Massachusetts and founded the towns of Plymouth, Salem, and Boston. They befriended the Native Americans there who helped them adjust to life in the new land. They would have the same fears and anxieties any new person would to a new place. Their social structures are well known.

In addition to the other answer, you need to realize that Mass. was settled by Puritans, whose religious beliefs HEAVILY influenced their outlook on life, the new continent, and government (they had a theocracy) among other things.
