Need a topic for a problem solving essay for my English 111 class?

I have to write a 12500 word problem solving essay and have no good idea what to write about. I have no problem researching, typing, or constructing the paper. I just don’t have a good controversial theme. Any ideas? Thanks.

Are there no problems in the city where you live? Or in the school? How would you solve the problem of homelessness, and the street people. How would you solve the problem of the massive home forclosures as the bank rates play dipsy doodle with people’s incomes? How would you get the Katrina victims back into homes and living in a productive manner?

12500 words??? is that a typo? because that is a huge essay.

How about… Was William Shakespeare a real man or was this name a pseudonym (pen name)?

It is actually quite an interesting debate, very controversial. There are researchers out there who believe Shakespeare never actually exsisted. They believe the name was created by a man who used this identity.

I do not think that you chose a good subject. It is difficult to be persuasive on high schoolers getting up too early. When you write your paper start out with something that is a “eye catcher” two examples of either the opposite or 2 examples that really show the problem. I once wrote a paper on how education is good for you–and I started my paper by explaining how a revolving door “propels” people forward and my last sentence compared that to education “propelling” people forward. So if you can come up with something like that you’ll have a great “eye-catcher”. When you get to the introduction you state the problem in a few sentences without using any of your examples. Make sure that you make a statement at the end that will bring you right to the first example. For instance, you could say that high schoolers who get up too early to go to school usually are less attentive, less concentrated, and participate less in class. Then you move to your first paragraph explaining why high schoolers who get up too early are less aqttentive with 2 examples, like one would be high schoolers who fall asleep in class. Stick only to the subject of attention(or whatever your 3 examples are–stick only to the subject at hand)and try to find a good sentence leading to the next paragraph–do the same here. Show with 2 examples how high schoolers who get up too early do not show the ability to concentrate well and support that with 2 details. One good example would be that they don’t know what the teacher is asking–support that with valid examples and stick to the subject. Then do that with the last paragraph as explained above. When you got your 3 paragraphs you close your essay with a brief summary explaining the solution you offered in your 3 paragraphs….hope that helps
