My 4th grade son has this question on his science homework. Can anyone in Tennessee help us.?

For each of the plants listed below, describe one adaptation it has and tell how the adaptation helps the plant.

Vine wraps around stuff and helps them grow tall

They grow up toward the sky, and wrap around trees or poles or whatever. They have adapated that way because they need sun, and have to find a way to get high(above other plants that may have stronger stems or thicker trunks). Their adaptation is to use whatever is handy to grow tall.

Cactus- The prickles on the cactus protect it and its good water stores from animals who would destroy (eat) it for its water content in the desert. Since cacti are succulents, they are good at soaking up rain when it falls and storing it in the dry times. If they didn’t have spikes, every thirsty animal would simply eat them for the water, so the adaptation allows it to survive.

Can’t think of one for water lilies offhand, but you get the point.

i’m sorry you live in tennessee…

1. vine-leaves for photosynthesis.

2. cactus-waxy coating for water retention.

3. water lily-i have no damn clue but i’m saying roots that will soak up the right amount of water.

I have never been in agreement with the idea of helping too much with homework but I will give you a clue……….. it all has to do with how each plant acquires water.
