4(t-25) = 2t – 4 ………..(2)

(note: when they were married tito was (t-25) yrs old)

solving (2) gives

4(t-25) = 2t – 4

4t-100 = 2t-4

2t = -4+100 = 96

t = 96/2 = 48 is tito’s age now

tito is 5 yrs older than helen so h = 43

or alternatively

putting t=48 in (1) gives

t = h + 5

h = t – 5 = 48 – 5 = 43

therefore

t = 48 is tito’s age now

h = 43 is helen’s age now
