Just count from left to right starting from right before the decimal. The whole number is the ones place. The first number after is the tens, hundredths, thousandths and so on and so forth just like any other number. As a general rule, round up if the last digit is 5 or higher. Otherwise, leave it be.

in the number 516, 583 the second 5 is in the hundreds palce

you look at the number next to it which is 8 and ask yourself is it greater than or equal to five? and it is so you make the five a six. so its 516, 600

2.9434 the 3 is in the thousandths place so you look at the number to the right of it which is the 4. 4 is not > or = 5 so you leave the 3 alone. so the answer is 2.943

10.4 the 0 is in the ones place so you look to the number to the right which is four and like the problem above it isnt greater than or equal to 5 so you leave the zero alone. so the answer is 10
