Math question-parabolas?
Write an equation for the parabola with focus (0,2) and diretrix Y=-2. Can somebody show me the steps of how to do this. Thanks

The vertex is halfway from the focus to the directrix so it’s at the point (0,0). Vertex form for a parabola is y = a(x-h)^2 + k where (h,k) is the vertex.
So far we have y = a(x-0)^2 + 0 which is just y = ax^2
Another point that’s equidistant from the focus and directrix would be (4,2). Plug this in. So 2= a(4^2) = 16a
a = 2/16 = 1/8
So answer: y = 1/8 x^2
