Math Question Involving Slope?

Please help me answer the following two slope questions.

1) Use what I give you to write an equation for the line. This answer must be in slope-intercept form. (y = mx + b)

y-intercept = 5

x-intercept = -2

2) Write an equation for the line using the given information. Give the answer in standard form. (ax+by=c)

y-intercept = -3

x-intercept = 6

If you could also show me how you got the answer as an example, that would be great. Thanks!

1) Given the x- and y-intercepts of a line, the slope is -y-intercept / x-intercept, so in this case m = -5/-2 = 5/2

y = mx + b

m = slope and b = y-intercept

Answer: y = (5/2)x + 5

To write this one in standard form, I would first get rid of the fraction by multiplying everything by 2

2y = 5x + 10

Subtract 5x to both sides

-5x + 2y = 10

Multiply both sides by -1

5x – 2y = 10

2) I think you can handle this one by using the problem above.

First find the equation in slope-intercept form (y = mx+b), then convert to standard form.

If you know the intercepts, the slope = – (y-int)/(x-int). So it’s 5/2 in problem 1 and 3/6 or 1/2 in #2. Then just plug into the formula. For the second one, you’d have to move the x-term to the left by adding its opposite to both sides.

I won’t do your homework for you, yet i’m going to provide you a nudge in the perfect course. The equation: C=0.0417D(A+a million) turns into C = 0.0417*D*A + 0.0417D This takes the variety y=mx+b… the effort-free equation of a line. m = slope b = y-intercept x = A (or age, the based variable for this reason). So, your slope is merely the coefficient of A (for this reason 0.0417*D). The slope represents the quantity of upward thrust over run (or the quantity the variable C ameliorations with increasing or lowering relative values of A). i could anticipate the age of a newborn to be 0. So, merely plug that into the above and you’re stable.
