5s + 2p= 200

Five sweaters plus two pants equal two hundred dollars since EACH spent one hundred dollars and not both together spent one hundred dollars

Where are the viriables expressions? Anyway, you may do it this way:

Let s = cost of sweater

p = cost of a pair of pants

Ct = total cost of their purchases=100 (2) =$200

The variable expression in words is “The total cost of 5 sweaters and 2 pairs of pants is $200”, or

Ct = 5s + 2p = 200

For this since they each spent 100, the total would be 200. Which would equal your purchases. So it would be

200=5s+2p
