A map is drawn to a scale of 1 : 50000.
a. What is the actual distance represented by 7.5 cm?
b. What the length on the map represents the actual distance of 4 km and 1600 m?

a) 7.5cm x 50000 = 375000cm = 3750m = 3.75km
b) Go the other way: 4km = 400000cm and so on the map you have 400000/50000 = 8 cm
1600m = 160000cm and so on the map 160000/50000 = 3.2cm.

You multiply the 7.5 CM by 50,000=375000cm so you want to converty to meters or kilometers.
3750 m or 3.75km
b. What the length on the map represents the actual distance of 4 km and 1600 m?
you would divide the answer by 50,000
4000m+1600m=5600m
5600m/50000=0.112 m=11.2cm
