Lowest Common Multiple?!!?

ok

what is the lcm of 6, 10, and 12 show how you did it please.

i tried doing it myself and their was this example of 24, 60 and 32 and it said it looks like this

24= 2x2x2x3x5x2x2=480 <-- which is the LCM but then i added it together and it turned out to be 280 what is going on here!!

You can list all the multiples of the largest number and see if the other numbers share the multiple

6: 12_24_36_48_60

10: 60

12: 12, 24, 36, 48, 60

So the LCM is 60.

There’s another method. Do you know how to make factor trees? If you wanna know it, just add details 😀

OK, so you make factor trees of each of the numbers and find the prime factorization of each.

6= 3 x 2

10= 5 x 2

12= 3 x 2 x 2

So after you get that, you multiply together the HIGHEST AMOUNT OF TIMES EACH NUMBER APPEARS IN ONE SET OF FACTORS. That sounds kinda confusing, but it’s easy once you understand it. For the factor 2, the highest times it appears is 2 times. So you have 2 x. 2. The highest time that 3 appears is 1 time. The highest time that 5 appears is 1. So you multuply 2 x 2 x 3 x 5=60. This method takes longer but is better if you have bigger numbers =] Hope I helped. I think that’s how the example you got was solved. The factors of:

24=3 x 2 x 2 x 2

60= 3 x 2 x 2 x 5

32= 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2

The highest number 2 apperas is 5, 3 is 1, and 5 is 1. Multiply 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 5 x 3=480

To find the LCM of 6, 10, and 12….

6: 6, 12, 18, 24, 30, 36, 42, 48, 54, 60

10: 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60

12: 12, 24, 36, 48, 60

You do not add. You multiply.

As you can see, 60 is the first number that is found as a multiple of 6, 10, and 12.

Therefore, 60 is the LCM.

The surest way to get LCM is to factor each

6=2*3

10=2*5

12=2*2*3

list all of the factors you find, but if a factor is included from a different number you don’t need to repeat it. For example 12 has 2*2*3 so you don’t need to repeat another 2 or 3 for the 6

LCM is 2*2*3*5=60

in their example

24=2*2*2*3

60=2*2*3*5

32=2*2*2*2*2

So LCM is 2*2*2*2*2*3*5=480

lowest common multiple is 60.

12 x 5 = 60

10 x 6 = 60

6 x 10 = 60

to find that on your own take the biggest number and multipy it times 1.

12 x 1 = 12. can you multiply the other #’s to equal 12? 6, yes, but 10 no. so move on

12 x 2 = 24. …. 6 x 4 = 24 but you cant do that with 10

12 x 3 = 36. ….. 6 x 6 = 36 but cant be done with 10. so on and so forth. eventually you would get to

12 x 5 = 60. all three numbers can be multiplied to = 60. hope that helps.

to find out the lcm of numbers you have to multiply the each number by 1,2,3,4,5,…….until u find out their common multiples.remember if u list the multiples or factors or ne numbers, dont use a = use an arrow or a colon torepresent that there is a list.

6:6,12,18,24.30.36.42,48,54,60,66,72…….

10:10,20,30,40,50,60,70,80,90,100,110……..

12:12,24,36,48,60,72

multiples of 6:

6×1=6,6×2=12,6×3=18…….that is how to find out a multiple of a number.

remember: DO NOT GET MIXED UP WITH FACTORS AND MULTIPLES!!

factors are the numbers u multiply by another number to get a prime number or a composite number.

multiples are the number(products[answer of multiplication]) of a number that u multiply by 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,………….

The lcm would be 60. When I learned it, we had to writ edown multiples of each number and whatever the lowest common one was would be the lcm.
