Who is a phony in the catcher in the rye?? (people who Holden discusses). I have a pretty long list right now and am looking for new ideas….

Well, if you made a list then you probably already listed these people, but…
-Ackley
-Stradlater (his roomate)
-Ernie (that piano player at the club in NY)
-basically everyone he meets

Haha… yeah, pretty much everyone except Holden’s little sister was a phony with scuzzy teeth, unless I’m getting my books crossed.
Edited to add: Maybe it would be easier (and shorter) to list the people who AREN’T phonies.

The whole world. His roommate is Ackley, whose not as phony as some of the others.
But the biggest phony in Holden’s eyes is himself!!! He just doesn’t admit it, but it is strongly hinted at throughout the book. He often acts contradictory to how he feels.
