Legacy of American Charity?

I have something to do for History class, it’s a poster about the Legacy of American Charity. But he gave me nothing to go on so I’m on my own. Now I know that the U.S always gave money and provisions to countries in need.

But I need some some reference or something that I could go on or some periods in time where they did help. I’m guessing that the U.S probably started with the charity works at the turn of the 20th century when they were considered a major power.

Also what organizations are there that help. All I can think of are the Red Cross. Sorry about all the questions, I’m just dumbfounded on where to start and I need someones help.
