Ideas for a modern Cinderella retelling?
For my English class i’m suposed to be to a modern retelling of Cinderella. However I’m having major writers block right now.So.. I could use some idea help.

Keep it simple. First just make a list of the basic story line. Then go and replace some of the fairytale aspects. Cinderella’s father could go missing in the war, whereupon she has no guardian and is put in the care of a wicked foster mother and her two cosmetic-surgery enhanced daughters. Cinderella is forced to do their homework and take a fast food job while they groom themselves to find suitable dates for the prom. Instead of a fairy godmother, a kind neighbor can intercede and make Cinderella a dress.

What if a teenage girl wanted a boy to ask her to a school dance, but the boy didn’t even know she existed, or knew her only as an on-line screen name? She could go to the dance (the ball) all prettied up with the help of a friend (her fairy godmother), and the boy wouldn’t know she was the girl online. She would have a curfew and have to be home before midnight, and the boy would have to find out somehow who she was, finally putting the person and the on-line screen name together. And they would become an item. You could call the story “Cyberella”!

How about reversing the gender issues of the story. Cinders could be a guy, the ugly sisters could be the obnoxious brothers etc.
