In the Hobbit & Beowulf- both heroes go after terrible monsters (the dragon & Grendel, respectively). Both Bilbo & Beowulf battle a dragon. They both battle three creatures (Bilbo- trolls, Gollum, dragon. Beowulf- Grendel, Grendel’s mother & the dragon). They both have to be clever to defeat their foes.

But the Hobbit (Bilbo) is a tricked into going on his adventure, while Beowulf is already considered a hero when he goes on the mission to battle Grendel, Grendel’s mother & the dragon. Bilbo is motivated by greed, Beowulf by heroism.
