I need help with this probability question!!!?

What does this mean? Chances of getting caught and prosecuted for identity theft are 10 million to 1,700. Does this mean that out of 10 million identity thefts a year, only 1700 get caught?

I am having trouble understanding the 10 million to 1,700 part

You are close. That would be mean that out of 10,001,700, 1,700 would be caught.

I would bet that you are correct in your assumption. Being that out of the 10 million per year, only 1,700 people actually get caught.

i guess you are right because if i said your chances of winning the lottery are 10 million to 1, that would mean that you have a 1 out of 10 million chance of winning right,, so it should mean 10 million to 1700 means 1700/10 million
