I need help with this…?

I need the answers to these to questions. Their from the time when the Constitution was being formed.

1. Why were the states afraid of centralized authority and a strong national government?

2. What was the main problem with the system of representation by state (rather than by population) that was adopted by the Confederation?

I really need help with these!

number one, you really should do your own homework, how are you going to learn? I’ll help without giving you the actual answers.

1. Look at why the people came over here from England in the first place. Wouldn’t you be afraid of a strong government if you came from that kind of background?

1. The states were afraid of centralized authority because they did not want the national government to gain too much power and because overpowering like Britain was. The colonists just finished their war with the overbearing England and they did not want to deal with that again (why we dont have a king or queen).

2. The main problem with the system of representation by state (meaning that each state gets the same amount of votes) is because the larger states, that had much larger populations, felt as though it was not fair and they were being punished for not having a small population. States such as Virginia felt that if they had a larger population, that they should have a larger percentage of votes. This is why we are now a two house legislature with the senate having equal votes and the congress having it done by population.

Hope i was helpful!
