Any discussion of plot will mention that conflct is the basis for all literature. You can have 3 basic story conflicts: human vs other human. human vs nature or human vs self. In every story there can be any combination of these basic conflicts, but every story needs to have conflict so that the plot can move forward toward the climax and resolution.
