I need help with a Direct Object, Indirect Object, Objective Complement Worksheet?

We did not go over this in class and I just don’t understand. There are sentences ans in each one is an underlined word. I have to write if it is a DO, IO, or OC. Here are a few:

1.) The Xhosa language of South Africa contains 3 different click sounds. (Sounds is underlined.)

2.) Japan named its decidious cypress tree the umbrella pine. (Pine is underline.)

3.) Mr. Ortega gave us a surprize quiz in trig yesterday. (us underlined)

4.) The noise from his CD player is driving me crazy. (Crazy underlined.)

Can you help?

Ok…here is what I think…I’m in AP English & we go over this a lot but sometimes it can be tricky!

1. Sounds – IO or DO (I get confused w/ those 2!)

2. Pine- DO

3. Us- DO

A direct object answers Who? or What? after the verb.

1. The language contains WHAT? sounds= direct object

3. The man gave WHAT? quiz is the direct object. That is what he gave you. Who he gave it to is the indirect object.

Who did he give the quiz to? that is the direct object.

Those are the only ones that I know for sure.

i know the direct object. you find the verb, and ask yourself, whom or what. For example, #3 Mr. Ortega gave us a surprize quiz in trig yesterday. US is the direct object because it is WHAT the subject GAVE (verb!!!) you.

that is all i know and my L.A. teacher taught me that today too!
