The just of it:
Jordan is careless. She only cares about what is in it for her. She is a famous golfer, so she knows she has money. She basically has nothing interesting about her. She spends her time talking about and trying to be involved in other peoples lives because hers is uninteresting (the buttlers nose in chapter two). She initially serves as the connection between Gatsby and Daisy, but the middleman does seem to be an appropriate role for such a colorless person.
