i multiplied two numbers and the product is smaller than one of the factors. what are the two factors?

I am assuming that you are talking whole numbers, because in the case of fractions, (less than 1), this is always true.

the only way I can see, is for the numbers to be 1 and a (-1); the product is -1 and is less than 1 (and equal to the other factor). This would also be the case if one of the factors were zero.

One of the factors could be any number as long as the other factor is 0.
