I’m doing research on black female slaves in American during slavery and…?

I need books, movies or anything else that might be helpful on their lives as female slaves. My teacher wants me to focus on the injustices, such as rape. Where can I find info on this. Are there any good websites for this topic or accounts from former slaves.

Roots was a film that came out 10+ years ago about African slaves and the torment they endured, males and females. Although, it’s like an 8 hour film. You can get it at Blockbuster.

Don’t base your research on film, unless it’s strictly fact-based (ex. the History Channel).

The answer to your question is easy. Google “Female slave injustices” or “slave injustices” and build on it from there.

Check out Deborah Gray White’s book, Arn’t I a Woman?

It’s about female slaves in the South.

Don’t really have an answer… but one place you can start is “EYEWITNESS — The ***** in American History” , William Loren Katz , 1971. Pitman Publishing Corporation.

Try quoting slave narratives written by women. This page has a huge list, and links to the full text of each narrative: http://docsouth.unc.edu/neh/texts.html
