UH- YES That’s why it has US as in United States Virgin Islands. The people who live on the Islands are citizens. They do serve in the military. Use the US dollar. Send mail with the US postal service.

No- it is not a separate country. Never has been. Although the flags of seven nations have flown over it. It was purchased by the US from the Danes in 1917 for 25 million in gold, and overseen by the Navy until 1931 when control was transferred to department on the interior. Residents may not vote in presidential elections and the representative to congress can not vote in session either.

you do not need a passport to visit as an American citizen.

The Virgin Islands are a group of Islands some of which are territories of the United States and some are territories of The United Kingdom.

The major Islands of The U.S. Virgin Islands are St. Croix, St. John and St. Thomas

The major Islands of the British Virgin Islands are Tortolo, Virgin Gorda, Anegada and Jost Van Dyke.
