That is an amazing book. My students sometimes read it for independent reading and really get into the book, “A Child Called It” and have a hard time understanding the fact that this does happen in our society.

Anyways, when my students do a scrapbook, they usually make it like a yearbook. For example, a page for each character that usually gives background information about the characters and then has pictures that represent the characters. But if they are asking about only the main character, maybe use each page for each major even that occurred with the main character and explain why it is significant. In a way, you can do a time line from when he leaves his mother until he going into the air force.

I would do both writing, to really show you read the novel and art to show creativity. If you are a horrible drawer like me, use a lot of pictures and colors!

Good luck! I know it will turn out great!

Hmm, that teacher really didn’t give you many instructions, as you said. But this could work on your side! There are no limits to creativity in this project!

First of all, go to the store and purchase some supplies. Often times, there are scrapbooking pages available in stores, which makes your life a whole lot easier. On top of this, you can buy alphabet stickers (to spell out any important topics), regular stickers (as decoration), glue sticks (you’re gonna need a lot! I recommend the sticks over the paste so it doesn’t become too messy), design scissors (to make your cut-outs more interesting!), sharpies, and a lot more!

Here is a way that I would create my scrapbook:

1) You said that you need to tell of the character’s strengths and weaknesses, etc. Create a page in the scrapbook designated for each topic. Use the alphabet stickers to spell out the topics. You can print out a picture of the main character (this will usually only work if the book is popular enough, because it probably won’t be on the Internet) or draw a picture of what you think the character might look like, and glue it in the center of the page. If the character’s strength is his or her mind, draw a line from his or her head and write in sharpie, “Intelligence.” Write a little description of how they are smart and use some quotes from the book!

I hope I’ve helped, and good luck on your project!

I say make it look like it’s a scrapbook that belongs TO your character. Use ads and paper clippings from that era, or create them yourself if it’s completely fictitional (like an outerspace thing or something). If there are stories about things the character does like they always fish, go to movies, etc., include pictures and items that show that, like a ticket stub, label off of a bait can, etc. Use your imagination. Become the character in your own mind, and create it from that prospective.

try mixing the two. write some and add pictures. pictures are worth a thousand words after all ; ]…make sure you make it neat. sounds like a fun project, if you have a scrapbook at home or something look at it and make yours realistic. that would be cool…
