i HATE summer reading. It is fair?

Summer is to have a break from school. We shouldn’t be FORCED to read books and do reports. I’m in all advanced classes too, so i have to read 5 books! Like, I’m gonna get killed next year with all the work I’ll have, so summer is like a gift from god. I shouldn’t have to do all that work. right?

If you want to remain ignorant, keep the books closed. It is surprising how much a person can read during the summer spending only 1/2 hour a day with books.

summer reading isnt very fair but it should be optional. check with your teacher on all the rules and guidelines on summer reading. if you know its not optional choose some books that look interesting to you and read them first. then maybe read a couple chapters of the other books or read the previews before u really read the whole thing. find the review and sometimes they tell you the whole story line so you dont have to sneak under every nook and cranny between the letters. it’s not really fair, Id have to agree. and summer IS for a break from school, but it shouldn’t be a break from learning. have a good summer!

It is NOT fair. I have to read three books and do a bunch of math. It is not fair, because Summer is a chance for kids to have a break from school and go have fun. My teacher said, “Go have fun during the summer, now here is your homework.” It is not fair during summer that we should have homework.

i agree. i have to read 3 books this summer for one class! its ridiculous. just because I’m in English honors i have to read 3. and the regular classes for English have to read 2. i think it is unfair. i never had summer reading until this summer and i have too now b/c i start High school this year. i Love reading books. but i only like to read it on my own or during school if it is a good book. and of the course the books i had to pick from are boring.. i think summer should be about fun and not reading a boring book for school

i don’t mind summer reading. But I do agree with you. I rather read books that I enjoy rather than being forced to read books that the teachers assign. The school usually assigns bad books.

See, if there were no summer reading, you would have to do the reading during the school year, leading to increased stress and lack of sleep. I don’t like summer homework either, but I’d take it over more homework durng the regular year. Teachers have a set curriculum to teach, so they’ll have to fit the materials in no matter what.

Just look at it this way—maybe after you read for a couple of summers, you will learn not to use the word “like” in every single sentence. The word “like” is meant to be used either as a comparison or as the verb “to like”. For example, “This house is a lot like the house on the next block.” Or, “I really like the summer season.” See, if you read, you would know that kind of stuff.

I think it’s completely unfair. You only have two months off and 10 ten months of classes ahead of you. And this especially counts if you’re in any grade below grade 10. You’re a kid and you should enjoy your time for fun while you can because sooner or later you will have to get a job and go to school, go to college, etc…

Yeah, summer is for relaxing not reading! Only read on your timing, otherwise drop the book and pick up the phone and call your friends.
