Hilary cycles to work each day. she cycles the first 5 miles at average speed of 15mph and the last mile in 10mins
How long does it take here to get to work?
What is her average speed for the whole journey?

At 15 mph it takes her 5 divide by 15 hours = 1/3 hour = 20 minutes to cycle 5 miles.
Total time taken = 20 + 10 (given for last mile) = 30 min.
TOTAL DISTANCE = 6 miles
CYCLED IN
30min
THEREFORE ave speed = 6 divide by 30/60 hours = 6 divide by 1/2 = 12mph
