How to win this almost unwinable argument?

my teacher has this joke where he believes trees are an enemy to humankind.

he says this because trees cause more problems to humans than they help (ex they fall on people, cause paper cuts, people run in to them with cars, etc.)

he says he has never lost an argument in this and i need help to win.

i need some arguable points that could win and argument in this. i appreciate the help!

To begin with, trees give us paper to print newspapers, magazines, and books, to share and disseminate knowledge and learning.

Trees are the lungs of the planet, especially the rainforest of the Amazon.

Trees are, in and of themselves, a thing of beauty and a joy forever. As the poet says, “I think that I shall never see a poem lovely as a tree … Poems are made by fools like me, but only God can make a tree.”

And, just for fun, you could remind your teacher he would be out of a job if not for the PAPER certificate or diploma he earned at teacher’s college … not to mention the PAPER bills he uses to pay for the bread and butter on his table.

In order to be an enemy, the enemy has to DO something; the enemy has to commit a volitional act. For instance, the school bully is an enemy because he hits you and steals your lunch. The gang member is your enemy because he graffiti’s your house. Your brother/sister is an enemy because he/she drives you crazy.

The tree doesn’t cause a paper cut; the person causes it by running his body part over the paper’s edge at the wrong angle. The tree doesn’t cause a car accident; that’s the driver’s fault. The tree does fall sometimes, but either because it’s dead, or because it absorbed some external force, such as lightning, a hurricane, or an ax.

The tree never acts of its own volition; it merely lives. If the tree can’t act on its own, then it cannot be an enemy. For the same reasons I’ve described, the tree doesn’t cause any problems to humankind.

If he just wants to win, just let him win.

Does he like to park his car under the shade or under the sun?

When he got sick, does he take a medicine which is a product from a jungle?

Does he not like any fruit at all? apple, orange, etc.

When he has a vacation, does he like to go to a beach which has nice palm trees swaying or does he like to go to a desert which has no vegetation at all?

Most important, tree is a crucial part of eco-system.

Without tree, the system will collapse.

Small animals won’t have shelter.

Then, their predator does not have food.

So eventually, there won’t be many wildlife around.

The system could collapse or turn out to different thing which might not be suitable for human anymore.

About the accident, it’s a tree that saved my life and my car. Then the road was so icy, I lost control and my car was sliding and almost fell out of the road to a huge drop.

But I hit the tree and it stopped my car from falling, otherwise thing could turn really bad.

Well let me begin:

Firstly, it is the humans who pollute the air, that causes much of the instability in the environment! Global Warming is one obvious example. These environmental changes then effect the soil and components that hold the tree!! Therefore, it is not the tree’s fault, it is our fault. If you think this is risky, just say how the soil is unable to stay stable, which makes the tree fall.

Also, if your teacher wants to pluck all the trees in the world… LET HIM!! Because trees are the one entity that keep us going. Say this: “If you think that trees are dangerous, then you are supporting the expulsion of trees. WIthout trees, our oxygen content will go rumbling down. If you want to kill the human population… GO AHEAD!!!!”

HAHA The only reason I did this is because I am a varsity debater!!

HOPE THAT HELPS!! =]

as people cut down trees to make paper, the paper thing is rather illogical.

the forests of the world have been dwindling at an amazing rate, so humankind is a far more dangerous enemy to treekind.

trees produce oxygen, thereby enabling our survival.

trees produce food, enabling our survival.

trees provide wood for housing, providing shelter.

trees.provide shade, protecting us from sun, and thereby protecting us from skin cancer.

trees creates humid conditions that help us bare the heat from the sun, they release oxygen in the atmosphere during photosynthesis which we need to survive, we need trees to get paper in to write on cause if generations before us didn’t have trees what would they have written on when they went to school? and if they didn’t go to school how would the world get so technologised and advanced?

Wow, don’t you just love those stubborn teachers? Well for one, they provide us with shade and they also provide homes for animals, but we also rely on them for Oxygen. They have stomata on their leaves that help in gas exchange for the tree. Water enters and exits them, and they are open in sunlight and Carbon Dioxide is able to go in when they are open. This allows for photosynthesis to take place, and the tree gives off Oxygen for us to breathe. Also trees prevent mudslides and landslides because it holds the dirt back. They also produce paper for us to use and learn from, and furniture for our house, and Maple syrup for us to use on our pancakes. They also provide fruit like apples, peaches, cherries, oranges, and also give walnuts. They also take in some of the extra carbon dioxide that is responsible for global warming. They absorb some of the extra Carbon Dioxide that is produced from factories, etc, and keep us from not melting and the greenhouse gases.

Why? He’s an augmentative idiot. He’s just baiting you.

If you wanted to argue with him, you could learn the % of oxygen they produce, and describe the affect on humankind that that much was missing from the atmosphere. Better yet, don’t waste your time.

Arguments like this are used to make a point. There are so many environmentalists out there saying “ban this” and “ban that” who don’t realize that everything we come into contact with can have a dangerous side.

The truth is that the logic behind this argument is perfect, so you cannot win by attempting to disprove it. Arguments like this are “won” by matching wit for wit, logic for logic.

Therefore, I suggest you mention the dangers of dihydrogen monoxide to your teacher. Like trees, this colorless, odorless substance is a danger to mankind. It causes death due to accidental inhalation, even in small quantities. It’s a major component of acid rain. In its gaseous form, it can cause severe burns. It contributes to soil erosion. It is found in tumors. It is given to vicious dogs involved in recent deadly attacks. It is often associated with killer cyclones in the U.S. Midwest and elsewhere, and in hurricanes including deadly storms in Florida, New Orleans and other areas of the southeastern U.S.

Pretty bad stuff, huh? It’s actually water. H20. See if you can trip him up.

The trees are your friends. They are just very reckless. Have you ever seen a tree fall on somebody on purpose?

Oh, and don’t let him mention that coconut thing, the number one reason of injuries in a country I think. (oops, I added one more arguement in favor of his claim. Maybe he is right, after all…)
