How to graph an equation?

In detailed steps please, how would you make a graph for the equation y=-2x+7 . Thank You! <3

7 is the y-intercept. This means that you will put a point on +7 on the y-axis (the line going up).

2x is the slope. This is how much you go up or down by on the graph. 2x means that you will go up 2, and across 1 for every point.

So, start at +7 and go up +2, and add a point. Keep doing that until you’re done.

Hope this made sense.

Start with a graph of x. (Straight line with slope of 1, intersects at the origin)

Shift to 2x (Changes/doubles the slope to 2. Twice as steep. Goes up 2 for every 1 over)

Add 7. Point of insertion increases by 7. (Line should hit the y axis at 7, and the x axis around 3.5)

First, find out where the line crosses the y axis. To find this, you plug in zero for x and get: 7. So put a point at (0,7). The next thing you have to know is that the number in front of x is your slope. This will tell you how far up or down it goes for a certain value to the side. Simply put, this one goes 2 units down every time it moves 1 space to the right. You could put another point at (1,5). (1 to the right of the other point, 2 down). Next, just get a ruler and draw a line that extends beyond those two points.

Hope I worded that well enough!

Just build your solution sets

Plug any number in for x, and solve for Y

x = 0, y = 7

x = 1, y = 9

x = -1, y = 5, etc.

Plot these solution sets on the graph.

As others stated, you slope is 2, in the fact that slope = change y/change x.

Hope this was a little clearer.

on the coordinate plane, make a point at the positive 7 on the y-axis (the one that goes up and down)…that point is called the y-intercept…it’s the number by itself in the equation…

from that point go down 2 spaces and right 1 space …make a point…continue to do down 2, right 1 two or three more times….-2 is the slope of your line…think of it in 2 parts:-2/1….those 2 values are usually called ‘rise’ and ‘run’…the traditional definition of slope is ‘rise’/’run’…

after plotting several points, connect them with a line…put arrowheads on each end of the line
