Easiest way to do that is to move the due date ahead by a day. That means you finish it a day before you have to turn it in. If something comes up, you have a ‘grace’ day, but once you get used to doing it ahead of time, you’ll never want to go back to the old deadline scramble.

You need to do a couple of things that will REALLY help:

1. Whenever a teacher even mentions a due date, write it down. Keep a little calendar with you everywhere you go.

2. Figure out how many hours at most it will take and plan big assignments ahead of time (like if a project is due next week, and you think it takes 8 hours to do, then divide up those eight hours and WRITE them in your calendar).

3. Any time you have free time during school (like the teacher is done and everyone is sitting around throwing paper at eachother or staring blankly into space), do some of the easy homework (like the boring worksheets that are no brainers).

4. Do not hope for a best case scenario (like: Oh, it will only take me a half hour to type that ten page paper; I’ll just do it on Sunday night at 9 p.m.).

5. Do your homework at a set time. I always liked coming home from school (or a sport/club/job), taking a shower, having a snack, and then getting right onto the homework.

6. Organize all your work into binders and have those little tabs that say “homework,” “notes,” “handouts,” etc. Folders do not work and are MESSY.

7. Before you go home each day from school, look at your calendar and see which binders and books you need to take home. Do not be in a big hurry, or you will forget.

8. If things get overwhelming, see your teacher before or after school BEFORE the due date and ask for help, advice, or an extention. Teachers are nice about that so long as you don’t ask in front of the whole class or on the day it is due (the two most annoying things ever and will get you a “NO” every single time).

9. Don’t have your parents bother the teacher if possible (this is annoying and hardly ever helps anyone).

10. See if you can study with a group of friends.

11. Take a study hall if you have the option and actually use it.

I would say that the most important thing is to have it done in advance. Imagine that every assignment is due the next day, regardless of the actual due date. Do all of the homework that you receive that day on the same night. If you have things like sports, see if you can do homework in the car or other times when you aren’t busy. Also, it is important to be willing to do your homework. If you don’t have the drive to be successful and do your homework, then you cannot succeed. Furthermore, whenever homework is finished, place it in your backpack or whatever else you are using to transport it to school (unless you are homeschooled).

keep a date book and a calendar. Carry one with you and post one up in front of your desk or on the wall. Mark different classes with different colored ink, or just mark due dates for important things in red pen. Once you finish something, hilight it. Keep a folder for every class, one half should be homework that needs to be done, the other half should be homework that is done and needs turned in.

Also, talk to your teachers about it, they may have suggestions on how to help you. Teachers aren’t bad evil people who want to see you fail, they want to help you succeed, so if they have ways of helping you, they’ll let you know.
