How to draw a line?
2x-y=8
x+y=1
the solution is (3,-2)
so if that is the point of interception on the graph
then can i draw the two lines in whichever direction i want so long as they intercept at that point??
Favorite Answer
-y=8-2x
multiply each side by -1 (to get rid of NEGATIVE y)
y=2x-8
where: rise: 2; run: 1 is the slope
and -8 is the y-inercept
and then:
y=-x+1
where: rise: -1; run: 1 is the slope
and 1 is the y-intercept
follow these rules and sketch.
When you set it up like that you should get y=2x-8 and y=-1x+1.
Have each respective line cross through the y-intercept and have the correct slope and hit the point of interception.
Hope this rings a bell and helps.
solve each equation for y, then choose values for x and calculate the new value of y
the first equation is y = 2x – 8
the second equation is y = -x + 1
make tables of values and plot the points to form the line
first you have to draw two lines seperately and then check for intersection point
