3 divided by 7 = add a decimal and zeros
3/7 = .428 and it keeps going.

Otherwise you have to do it by long division on paper
Seven into 3 does not go so call it 7 into 30 (which means your answer starts 0.) answer 4 times (7×4=28 with 2 left over) so start of answer is 0.4. You have the 2 left over from the thirty so again divide 20 by 7 answer 2 (7×2=14 with 6 left over) so answer is now 0.42.
Continue with this as long as you want or to the number of places required for the answer. ).42 is to 2 decmal places 0.4285714 is to 7 decimal places.
I reckon the calculator is easier – wish they had them in my day!
Remember that when you are looking at a fraction, you are also looking at a number written as a division problem. Divide the upper number (the numerator) by the lower number (the denominator), and your answer will yield a decimal.
