Ex:

Bob announced, “Do you know what Jill said? She said ‘Did you see that fat person?’ Did you hear her?”

Jill responded quickly by saying, “I did not say that! What I said was ‘Did you see that rat in person?’ Why would I call her fat?”

Does this help? If not go ahead and email me..I tend to be pretty good at this stuff…

I agree with what the people above me said, just quote it as normal, and end with the appropriate citation, BUT! Don’t forget. If the quote is more than 4 lines long you have to indent the entire quote. I hope this helps.

If its all part of the same quote, no additional quotes needed, but if in the quote you see quote marks, then just use one ‘ quote mark at the beginning of the end of the quote. End your reference with the required ” and site your source.

If your character is quoting a source in a statement, use the quotation marks (” and “) to bracket the character’s statement and use the the apostrophe mark (‘ and’) to bracket the quote within the statement.

I write papers all the time. Check out the following websites, they will help you quote how you need to.

http://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/560/01/

http://www.apastyle.org/elecref.html

http://www.liu.edu/cwis/CWP/library/workshop/citapa.htm

My personal favorite is the owl site – most user friendly and it will also show you how to do your reference page.
