How do you change the quadratic function [y=x^2+2x-3] into vertex form and intercept form?? I AM STUCK. help.?
It is very important that I figure this out.
It is due Monday October 22nd.
Please help if you can.

To get it in vertex form you need to complete the square. This is done here by taking half of the x term coefficient (2) and writing
y = (x+1)^2 which FOILed out is x^2 + 2x + 1, so to get the -3 you subtract 4 getting
y = (x+1)^2 – 4
So the vertex is (-1,-4)
As for intercept form, just FOIL the original: y = (x+3)(x-1) so the x intercepts are -3 and +1
